Biological Science Technician (Wildlife)
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS-05 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Experience identifying various species of animals. Experience using lethal and non-lethal animal control techniques. Experience working within local, state and national rules and regulations as they apply to wildlife policies and procedures. Conducting basic computer operations for record keeping, data analysis, report writing and correspondence. OR, a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours must be in wildlife. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. FOR THE GS-06 LEVEL:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Dealing with human-wildlife conflicts and principles of wildlife damage management. The requirements of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), Endangered Species Act, and National Environment Policy Act. Conducting feral swine and other wildlife damage assessments, counts and abundance surveys. The use of firearms, traps, snares, pesticides, immobilizing drugs, pyrotechnics, electronic harassment devices, and other non-lethal control tools. Creating/maintaining public contacts to formulate assistance strategies that incorporate technical assistance and operational control techniques. OR 1 full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education with coursework directly related to the position. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required if:
You are qualifying for the position based on education. You are qualifying for this position based on a combination of experience and education. This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-05 and GS-06 GRADE LEVEL:
Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. Combining Education and Experience for Technical and Medical Support Positions Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
